Danish exhibition honours Sydney Opera House

Designed by Joern Utzon, the Sydney Opera House has continually been a revisited subject by some of Australia’s best known artists. To me it was what pure creativity is all about...imagining something that did not existed until Joern sketched it in pencil.

Featured prominently in paintings of some of Australia’s best known artists, daughter of the Opera house’s designer, Lin Utzon has decided to bring these images together for a major exhibition in Denmark.

The exhibition will take place at the Utzon Centre in Aalborg where the designer grew up and showcases the works of Ken Done as well as 7 other Australian artists.

Lin Utzon is hopeful that in celebrating Australian-Danish connections, Princess Mary will open the exhibition in September and would love for the exhibition to be seen in Australia in time for next year's 40th Anniversary of the Opera Houses opening.

15 years earlier I did this painting of the opera house for a competition for the 25th anniversary,
It didn't win but was shortlisted, there are still a few prints of the original painting left, the original painting hangs in pride of place in my studio.

I was always fascinated by Utzons slices of a sphere for its construction so added it to the finished image
